QVoice is designed to support clear communication between the AAC user and their partners (like parents, caregivers, and therapists). To avoid confusion about who is "speaking" on the device, you can assign a unique voice to the QVoicer and a separate voice for when someone is modeling language.
The Two Voices: QVoicer vs. Modeler
Primary Speaking Voice (QVoicer Mode) This is the main, personalized voice the AAC user will use to generate speech and communicate their thoughts, wants, and needs. When the user builds a message and tells the device to speak, this is the voice that will be heard. It's their voice.
Modeling Voice This voice is specifically for a communication partner (a parent, therapist, etc.) to use when they are modeling language on the user's device. Using a different voice for modeling makes it clear that the partner is demonstrating, and the message isn't coming from the AAC user themselves.
Why This Matters: By choosing two distinct voices (e.g., a child's voice for the Primary Voice and an adult female voice for the Modeling Voice), you can instantly tell whether the message was created by the user or demonstrated by their partner. Also, having two different modes is how we separate the data collection behind the scenes .
QVoicer Volume Levels: For the Primary User
The QVoicer has two distinct volume controls to give them more power and privacy as they construct messages.
Auditory Cueing Volume This sets the volume for private feedback as the user builds their message. As they select icons or words, they can hear them quietly to confirm their choices before speaking the full message aloud. This allows for sentence-building without broadcasting every step of the process.
Final Speaking Volume This is the main volume for the completed message. Once the user is ready to communicate, they can use this setting to ensure their voice is heard clearly by others, whether in a quiet room or a noisy environment.
