QVoice Grid Architecture
This was one of the biggest architectural difference between how we designed QVoice compared to the other AAC systems we tried.
From what we observe about other AAC Systems:
Other AAC System | QVoice | |
Design | ![]() | ![]() |
CON |
| None that we can think of... ![]() |
PRO | This design makes sense if you only have one device (one hardware to hold all the information). Sharing information is more cumbersome so passing around one file is the best format. | QVoice is online which means it is accessible from many sources. So having Folders and Buttons stored and managed separately makes more sense. This also paves the way to access folders and buttons individually (See community idea below). |
Resizing Grid Sizes
Is the AAC User ready for the next grid size up? With the current architecture, our grids can GROW. Just change the grid size and we will do the work. All the corner buttons stay in the corner; middle buttons stay in the middle.
Best of all? Every button you've ever created is accessible in the new grid. Buttons shared between all the Grid layouts so no work is lost.
To resize your grid:
![]() | 1. Open the Q Menu by long pressing on the Q on the top left corner of the screen |
![]() | 2. Tap on Preferences. |
![]() | 3. Under Grid Options, you'll see all the grid layouts listed. 4. Check the grid you want to edit. 5. Tap on the pencil to edit the grid. (you can only edit the currently loaded grid) |
6. The dialog below will display the current grid properties. | 7. As you add columns or rows, the green cells will indicate where the empty placeholders will be inserted as your grid grows. |

Future idea: QVoice Community
Our vision for the future includes building a collaborative community where QVoicers and professionals can share resources. Imagine easily finding and downloading buttons or entire folders created by others – no more recreating the same content in isolation! Our architecture can support this!
While we need to grow our user base to make this a reality, we're excited about the potential for shared resources and collective creation.
